How many months of Supervised Weight Loss do you require?

If you do not know how many months of supervised weight loss visits you require, check your passport for surgery that your surgeon's office gave you (the checklist) in your bariatric folder.

One of the first things it will say is "supervised weight loss" and how many you require. Typically it is either 3 months, 4 months, 6 months, or 12 months of consecutive supervised weight loss appointments with a Dietitian or Primary Care Physician.

In some cases, insurances do not require supervised weight loss appointments. If that is the case, you are still required to do 2 nutrition appointments (either 1 on 1 or the pre-recorded course).

Typical plans that require 12 months of supervised weight loss will cover 1 on 1 visits with the dietitian.

If you are still unsure, you can message us HERE to ask if we have received your referral with the information on it.

MEDICARE PATIENTS:

If you are on a traditional medicare plan, your insurance will not count supervised weight loss appointments with a dietitian, only your PCP. You will still be required to meet with us and we would recommend doing the 2 month course if your insurance won't cover our appointments
