The Beauty of Bone Broth

Bone broth. A nutritious & delicious soup that can used for 100's of recipes to add depth and flavor to your food! Not only that, it also has numerous health properties such as:

- Healing a leaky gut

- Boost immune system

- Collagen for joint health

Bone broth gets it's name because it requires utilizing the carcass (bones, as well as ligaments) of an animal in order to extract certain nutrients. It derives it's benefits from the loads of collagen, proline, glysine, & glutamine that are released during the simmering process (1). Glutamine in the "master antioxidant" that helps rid your body of free radical species that can cause cell death.

I love to eat bone broth daily because it has a full, savory flavor that can boost the flavor of any dish, PLUS I love buying into the idea of utilizing the whole animal.. whatever parts you've got - use em!

To make bone broth:

Add the remainders from chicken or beef into crock pot and add water until the bones are completely submerged. Add 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to help extract the nutrients from the bones.

Heat in slow cooker on low for 12-24 hours. Allow to cool before proceeding to strain

Strain broth into individual mason jars or other glass jars until they are 3/4 of the way full.

Keep out what you need to use for now and freeze the rest.

Stores in the fridge for 3-4 days & 6 months in the freezer.

Use it in:

I like to use bone broth as part of a marinade, as a base in my "not so soy sauce", as a warm pick-me-up snack, & as a breakfast alternative during the winter months.

It is a very simple recipe that produces big benefits! Try your first batch of bone broth & let me know what you think!
